Christian Doctrine
This well-written book by Dr. Shirley Guthrie provides an introduction to Presbyterian theology and beliefs by using the Apostle’s Creed as a starting point for discussing how theology impacts our daily lives. Each chapter contains questions for reflection and discussion. Both Jimmie and Todd highly recommend this book to all adult bible studies and Sunday School classes.

God and Ourselves: A Brief Exercise in Reformed Theology
This book provides a brief overview of the Reformed/Presbyterian tradition out of which we come, providing discussions not only for what we believe but how our faith impacts our lives in our culture. Topics covered in this book include "What We Share with All Protestants," "What We Inherit from the Reformed Tradition," "Community in an Age of Self-Fulfillment," and "Justice in an Age of Self-Interest."

The French Confession of 1559
Written during the Reformation, this theological treatise gives insight into the heritage of the Reformed/Presbyterian tradition, as it lays forth the essential tenets and beliefs of Reformed Christians struggling to maintain their faith in the midst of a staunchly Roman Catholic nation. The copy of this confession includes a study guide and study questions.

The Book of Confessions
Ordained elders, deacons, and ministers have at one time or another been introduced to this book, but few of us have studied it in-depth. It is a collection of documents dating from the 4th century to the late 20th century which lay out the basic beliefs of Christians (Catholic, Protestant, and Reformed) from different times and places in our church’s history. This book is a tremendous resource for discovering what beliefs used to be crucial for the Church, what beliefs are currently of importance for the Church, and how such beliefs have changed over the centuries. This collection of creeds and confessions forms the theological part of the Presbyterian Church’s constitution. For those interested in studying any portion of the Book of Confessions, a study companion is available entitled Presbyterian Creeds, by Jack Rogers.

The Study Catechism
Catechisms are basically statements of Christian belief in a question and answer format. The Study Catechism is a recent publication from the Presbyterian denomination which seeks to use an ancient form of instruction, the catechism, to instruct 21st century Presbyterians in the essentials of the Reformed/Presbyterian faith. Jimmie and Todd both think that this is a well-written publication that would be of tremendous help to those who want to know what the Presbyterian Church "believes." Free copies of this catechism can be downloaded off the Presbyterian Church’s website ( Todd can also order bound copies for classes and study groups.)

Members Together: A Study for Adult New Members
This workbook provides newcomers to the Presbyterian church with a brief overview of our church’s beliefs, government, structure, and history. It is intended to be used in a five-session format.

The Great Ends of the Church
The constitution of the Presbyterian Church calls upon us to uphold what has become known in Presbyterianism as the six Great Ends of the Church: 1. The Proclamation of the Gospel for the Salvation of Humankind 2) The Shelter, Nurture, and Spiritual Fellowship of the Children of God 3) The Maintenance of Divine Worship 4) The Preservation of the Truth 5) The Promotion of Social Righteousness 6) The Exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the World. This study explores what these "Great Ends" might mean for contemporary Presbyterians and whether or not they are negotiable for our denomination. This is an excellent theological study of the nature of the Church, and is highly recommended to adult groups.

Basic Beliefs: Salvation/Grace and Faith, Belief, Doctrine
Basic Beliefs is actually a series of small booklet which seek to cover major theological themes and doctrines. This particular book in the series deals with the topics listed in the title. We also have in stock a sample of another book in the series that discusses the doctrines of the Incarnation, the Trinity, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. Other books in the series which can be ordered cover topics ranging from the Sacraments to Ethics to the Problem of Evil. Each book contains material for ten sessions.

Living Faithfully in the Public Square
Another series of short-term studies produced by the Presbyterian Church for adults covers a wide variety of contemporary issues. Other booklets in the series include Faith and Technology and New Age Religion (though we do not have samples on hand of other booklets in the series).

Interpretation Bible Studies: Exodus
Produced and written by scholars from the Presbyterian tradition, Interpretation Bible Studies provides extensive overviews of various books of the Bibles. By examining in-depth key passages from these books of the Bible, this series gives participants an excellent grounding in the book without exhausting them with an analysis of every single passage in the book. We have about fifteen copies on hand of the Exodus series, but other books of the Bible are available upon request.

Kerygma: Discovering the Bible
Kerygma is a nationally renowned, year-long study which surveys the whole of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. It provides excellent introductions to the various books of the Bible and engages its participants in readings from most of the major books. Kerygma is an excellent adult course for studying the Bible as a whole and getting a grasp on the basic narrative flow from the Old to New Testament. Yet it is also a very demanding series, requiring outside reading in order to be effective. Still, we recommend this study for any adult group wishing to get a better, more-educated approach to the Bible as a whole.

Westminster Bible Companion (Various books)
Books from this series are best used by Sunday School and Adult Study teachers. For such teachers, these books provide commentaries on the books of the Bible which will help the teacher guide adult discussions of the books of the Bible. Between Jimmie and Todd, we have samples of these books for many of the books of the Bible.

The Light Will Shine: A Study for Advent
This curriculum, authored by Carol Miller, is part of the Kerygma Series. It provides an overview of Bible passages and liturgical themes which enlighten the meaning of the Advent/Christmas season for Christians.

Good News for All: The Gospel of Luke

Patricia Heidebrecht explores the second volume of Luke’s account of Jesus Christ and the first Christians in this Kerygma resource.

Foundations of Faith: Education for New Church Members
This resource is a study guide to the Presbyterian Study Catechism’s section on the Apostle’s Creed. A copy of the catechism, commentary on each section of the catechism, and study questions are all included in this book. The church can also order separate copies of the catechism if needed.
