The Meals On Wheels program is one of the four services provided by the Central Texas Senior Ministries. The purpose of the program is to provide a hot, well-balanced, appetizing meal to the eligible participants.

To be eligible for the program, a person must be 60 years of age or older, be homebound, be unable to cook their own meals because of a physical, mental or emotional impairment, and have no support system available to help them with meal preparation.

The average age of our clients is 80.6 years. Fifty-six percent of all clients are over the age of 80, an 14 percent are over the age of 90. At 9:00 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, four to six people gather in the church kitchen to begin packaging sixty meals for the Meals On Wheels program. By 10:30, six drivers arrive to begin delivering these meals to the recipients. Many of the drivers have a partner who accompanies them on the route, so that the partner can take the meal to the door, and the driver does not have to get out of the car.

If you want to become a part of this program, you can volunteer to work as a server or a driver. Volunteering in the program will take about two hours of your time, including commuting to and from church. This is an extremely rewarding program, both for the volunteers and the recipients.
