Missionary Support

In response to the Great Commission of Christ to "go into all the world" with the Good News, our congregation is involved in several specific ways. For many years, First Presbyterian has participated in the Missionary Support Program of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Of every $100 we give to the General Assembly Mission Program, approximately $38 is designated for the Worldwide Ministries Division, through which our church sends approximately 500 committed men and women as mission co-workers, mission diaconal workers, and mission volunteers to serve in 80 countries around the world.

As a participant in the Missionary Support Program, First Presbyterian Church designates a portion of our contribution specifically for the partial salary support one or more missionaries. In the past few decades, we have supported the Rev. and Mrs. R.K. Robinson in Korea, the Al Coits in Brazil, Dr. and Mrs. Ron Stringer in Zaire and then Nepal, and the Rev. Priscilla Abbott, who served as a chaplain in Oita, Japan.

As a supporting church, we are encouraged to correspond with our missionaries inform ourselves about their work and life in a personal way, and so to learn more about how the Good News is being spread through their lives and ministry.

International Mission Bulletin Board

Our International Mission Bulletin Board, located on the main floor of the Church in the elevator lobby, is filled with current mission information, including recent missionary letters. Near the bulletin board are scrapbooks with letters and pictures from current and past missionaries we have supported and information about special projects we have undertaken.
