Our Session

The Session of First Presbyterian Church consists of the pastor, associate pastor, clerk of Session and elders in active service. All members of the Session, including the pastor and associate pastor, are entitled to vote. The clerk is able to vote if also an active elder on the Session.

Our Session is responsible for the mission and government of the church. In addition, the Session has the responsibility to maintain regular and continuing relationship to the higher governing bodies of the church.

The Session is the policy-making, planning, coordinating, and administering body for the church. Session members serve as moderators and vice moderators of our standing committees, except for one.

Our standing committees are:

  • Worship, which is responsible to Session for recommending time and place of preaching the Word, administration of sacraments, and the use of music in worship.
  • Outreach, which is responsible to Session for our mission program from Waco to the far reaches of the world.
  • Congregational Life, which is responsible to Session for promoting participation friendship, support and inspiration for our members.
  • Christian Education, which is responsible to Session for our educational programs of the church.
  • Administration, which is responsible to Session for budgetary control and organizational procedures.
  • Facilities Management and Planning, which is responsible to Session for maintenance of and future enhancements to our physical plant.
  • Personnel, whose members are all members of Session and which is responsible to the Session for administering the employment of all non-ordained employees.
